Integration of Electronic and Photonic Devices

The rapid development of technology in the 20th century, especially related to the development of integrated circuits and silicon devices, led to the revolution of the 21st century, which is the Internet of Things / Internet of Everything (IoT/IoE). IoT is currently the fastest growing branch of the economy in the field of advanced technologies in the world. The basis of the development of IoT devices is the integration of electronic and photonic devices into the so-called Systems-on-Chip (SoCs). While Electronics can be considered the technology of the 20th century, then Photonics is referred to as technology of the 21st century. Electronics have already reached several fundamental limitations in several applications. In the field of Photonics, especially integrated photonics, there are still many research and development areas that are not fully explored. And thus, integrating the electronic and photonic devices in the so-called Micro-Opto-Electromechanical Systems (MOEMS) creates a new class of devices and gives unlimited applications for all branches of the economy.
